Activation Lead - Tactical Urbanism Division (Summer Position)

Sustainable Calgary is looking for an activation lead to join our team, to support the implementation and programming of a temporary installation (tactical urbanism) . 

What you'll do

  • Support the implementation of the temporary installation

    • Lead a painting session of a street mural by setting up required materials, taping outlines, placing stencils, and painting the street

    • Lead a planting session by moving soil and transplanting plants into prefabricated planters

    • Organize community volunteers assisting in painting and planting activities

    • Coordinate other logistics like permitting, material and equipment organization, and subcontractor timing

  • Coordinate and deliver a recurring community event

    • Perform necessary set-up and tear down procedures for event

    • Greet and engage passersby and event attendees to inform them of the purpose and background of the project

    • Gather data about the site (eg. person counts, intercept surveys)

    • Manage material inventory and monitor the condition of permanent components in the event space

    • Support promotional activities on social media and in-person

  • Attend community events to facilitate general public engagement to inform future phases of the project

What you’ll bring

  • An interest and passion for placemaking and city building

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Experience with event coordination and community engagement

  • Experience painting large murals is considered an asset

The position will range from 20 - 30 hours per week, commencing early- to mid-June and ending on August 26. Compensation starts at $20.00/hour.

This is a Calgary-based position primarily working near the city centre, with a majority of hours spent doing in-person, outdoor activities. Access to reliable transportation is required. Administrative duties will be performed chiefly from home and/or remotely.
